What’s new for Copilot – August 2024

One of the most anticipated features is the automatic summary of documents in Microsoft Word. Now, every time you open a document, Copilot will generate a concise summary, saving you time and helping you quickly grasp the key points. Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Data Lifecycle Management – Separation of the Copilot for Microsoft 365 retention policy location from Microsoft Teams chats
Today, admins must manage retention and deletion for Copilot for Microsoft 365 interactions using a retention policy location that also includes Microsoft Teams chats. This feature will provide a new location option to manage only Copilot interactions, separate from Microsoft Teams chats.
Video drafting in Copilot powered by Clipchamp
Clipchamp brings video creation skills to Copilot. Type your prompt and Clipchamp will write a bespoke script, source high quality stock footage, and assemble a video project with music, voiceover, text overlays and transitions. Open your video project draft in the Clipchamp app to continue to edit, export, and share. This feature is great for informational videos, video messaging, how-to videos, demos, and video presentations.

Microsoft Purview | Insider Risk Management: Enhanced alert and user investigation with Microsoft Copilot for Security
Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management is enhanced with Microsoft Copilot for Security, offering alert summaries and detailed user activity investigations. Public Preview begins early August 2024, with General Availability in mid-November 2024. Users need Copilot for Security licenses and proper permissions to use this feature.

Copilot in the Microsoft Edge mobile application is being retired for Entra ID users
The Copilot feature in the Microsoft Edge mobile app for Entra ID users will be retired with version 128 in late August 2024. Users should use the Microsoft 365 mobile app for work and web chat instead. No action is required, but informing users is recommended.

Supporting Microsoft Copilot Dashboard with Organizational Data in Microsoft 365
The Microsoft Copilot Dashboard now supports Organizational Data in Microsoft 365 for tenants with the appropriate licenses. This feature is already rolled out and requires Viva Insights licenses for advanced features. Admins should review the impact, update training, and ensure data uploaded is managed correctly.
Copilot dashboard access can be granted using Entra groups
In the coming months, the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard access can be granted by Global admins using Microsoft Entra ID (AAD) Groups. This will reduce the manual effort of the admins.

We are announcing the create and edit expressions with Copilot feature for Power Automate. With this feature, makers can create, edit, and fix their Power Automate expressions by invoking Copilot. This feature will reach general availability on September 15, 2024.

Schedule with Copilot from an Email
Outlook’s new feature, Schedule with Copilot, allows enterprise users with Copilot licenses to schedule meetings directly from an email thread. It’s rolling out in mid to late August 2024 for the new Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web. No action is required to prepare for this release.

Get started in Copilot chat quickly with automatic prompt suggestions that enhance your productivity by providing relevant and context-aware prompts based on your previous interactions.
Copilot in Viva Amplify editor
The superpowers of Copilot will be directly available to you in the Amplify editing experience to revolutionize the way you create and enhance content. Auto-rewrite will create suggestions based on the text you’ve written. Additionally, you can expand or condense what you have written. Copilot in Amplify will also help you adjust the tone of your content to ensure consistency across your communications and to best suit your audience, whether you need a casual tone for social messages, an engaging tone to compel and draw in your audience, or a professional tone for business communications.

Microsoft Copilot to update to enterprise data protection
Microsoft Copilot will update next month to include enterprise data protection for users with an Entra account. It will feature a new ad-free interface, with no changes for other Copilot experiences in Microsoft 365 apps. Rollout begins mid-September 2024, with no action needed for automatic redirection.

Initiate a Copilot impact survey that helps leaders and IT admins understand the return on investment of rollout out Copilot and AI tools across their organizations. View results from responses to surveys initiated from Viva Glint or Viva Pulse directly in the Viva Insights Copilot Dashboard.
Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365: Automatic summary of documents on file-open in Word
Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 will automatically generate document summaries in Word upon file opening. This feature, part of the Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 397096, will be globally available from late August to late September 2024 and requires no admin action for rollout.

Admins will be able to duplicate Copilot Academy and customize it for their own requirements. They will also be able to duplicate Microsoft curated Learning paths and featured Set.

Copilot Studio – Environment routing announcement
Environment routing is coming to Copilot Studio. This feature will allow your Power Platform admins to automatically direct new or existing makers into your own personal developer environments. Environment routing will be generally available beginning September 15, 2024.
Copilot for Microsoft 365: Installed extensions will be auto-enabled to run and will support action workflows
Copilot for Microsoft 365 will auto-enable installed extensions to support action workflows, allowing users to create, update, or delete records directly. This update, associated with Roadmap ID 384848, will roll out from mid-September to mid-December 2024. Organizations should manage their extension settings and inform users about this change.

Language expansion coming in M365 Copilot
The Copilot for Microsoft 365 team is working on supporting 12 new languages across all M365 Copilot features: Bulgarian?, Croatian?, Estonian?, Greek?, Indonesian?, Latvian?, Lithuanian?, Romanian?, Serbian (Latin)?, Slovak?, Slovenia,? and Vietnamese. They’re also improving the handling of these language variants: Dutch (Belgium), German (Switzerland), English (UK), Spanish (Mexico), and French (Canada).
Microsoft Viva: Glint and Pulse results will be integrated into the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard
Microsoft Viva will integrate Glint and Pulse survey results into the Copilot Dashboard, enabling sentiment insights and direct survey initiation. This feature requires specific subscriptions and will roll out in September 2024. Admins should review current settings as existing controls will remain in effect.
Viva Learning – AI & Copilot Resources provider
The AI & Copilot Resources provider will power the OOB Microsoft Copilot Academy and will be visible by default to users who have Copilot licenses. Admins will be able to enable, disable, and apply permissions on the content of this provider.
