What’s new for Copilot – July 2024

Microsoft SharePoint: Authoring assistance from Copilot
Copilot is being integrated into Microsoft SharePoint’s Rich Text Editor, enabling content authoring assistance. It will be available for users with a Copilot Microsoft 365 license, rolling out from early July to early August 2024. This feature can be disabled in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Copilot Lab trending and recommended prompts
With this feature, customers will be able to see which prompts are new or trending within their organization and receive personalized prompt recommendations in Copilot Lab, powered by Microsoft Graph.
Copilot in Forms aids students with step-by-step solutions for quiz questions
With Copilot in Forms quizzes, teachers can easily generate step-by-step solutions for each question. Teachers have the option to allow students to immediately view their results so they can see what they’ve mastered and where they need further studying using the step-by-step solutions supported by Copilot.
Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Data Loss Prevention – New workload for Copilot in Content Explorer
With this change, customers will start seeing a new Copilot location within the Content Explorer. This will have all the sensitive information which is present in Copilot conversations

Word – Customize Copilot in Word responses with Personalization profiles
Personalization profiles allow users to customize the way Copilot responds to their prompts. It considers user preferences, interests, and other information to give users a more personalized experience.

Current web content included when drafting with Copilot in Word
Draft with Copilot will include information from Bing search, resulting in content that’s as current as what you would find when searching with Bing on the web.
Excel – Preview and “Apply” changes suggested by Copilot
Previously, when a user asked Copilot to make changes to their table data, Copilot would make the changes directly. Now, Copilot will respond with a description of the planned changes, along with a button to “Apply”. Users can choose to refine before applying. This provides more user awareness and control over Copilot’s changes.
Copilot takes emails and meetings into account while drafting content in Word
You will no longer need to reference certain types of organizational data for Copilot to generate contextually relevant content. People and chats will still need to be referenced explicitly.

Add brand images in M365 Copilot from SharePoint organization asset libraries
Copilot in PowerPoint and Word connects with your SharePoint organization asset library, making it easy to find and add images approved by your company to keep your presentation or document on brand.
Automatic summary of documents on file-open in Word
When you open a document, Copilot will generate a summary in the Word window. You can hide the summary or open the Copilot chat pane to ask specific questions about the document.

The same Microsoft Copilot experience available in new Outlook for Windows, web, and classic Outlook soon will be available in Microsoft Outlook for iOS and Android through the module switcher.

Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365: New Scheduled prompts feature
Microsoft 365 introduces a new Scheduled prompts feature for Copilot, enabling automated prompts at specific times in Teams, Office.com/chat, and Outlook. Available early to late October 2024, it requires a Copilot license and a Power Automate license. Admins can manage this feature through the Optional Connected Experiences admin setting
Use Copilot to select and rewrite specific pieces of text in an email in classic Outlook for Windows
In classic Outlook for Windows, when composing an email, customers can select portions of text in an email and use Copilot to rewrite it. Users can give detailed instructions on how to rewrite and also able to modify tone and length.

Viva Pulse templates to measure Copilot readiness, adoption & impact as part of Microsoft 365 Copilot
Viva Pulse authors can now use new templates specific to M365 Copilot Readiness, Adoption & Impact to measure employee sentiment around their organization’s Copilot adoption. These templates will be available as part of your Microsoft365 Copilot subscription as well.
Copilot Academy visibility for users with Copilot SKU and VL Seeded/Premium
Microsoft Copilot Academy will be available for all users with a Copilot for Microsoft License and any of Viva Learning licenses (Seeded or Premium). Admins will also be able to control visibility of Copilot Academy.

Microsoft Copilot in Teams will use the meeting chat as a data source
Microsoft Teams’ Copilot will soon use meeting chat as a data source to provide answers from chat and transcript data. It will be available for meetings 24 hours before and after, requiring a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license. Rollout begins mid-August 2024 for Targeted Release and late August for General Availability. No admin action is needed for the update.

When investigating alerts within Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management, you can now harness the power of Microsoft Copilot for Security. This tool not only provides concise alert summaries, but it also allows you to delve into specific user activities. By doing so, you can promptly assess whether the user associated with the alert warrants further investigation or if the alert can be safely dismissed. Additionally, with just a click, you can obtain a succinct summary of the user’s risk profile, highlighting crucial details and top risk factors. Leveraging Copilot for Security streamlines investigations, ultimately reducing the triage workload and enabling faster decision making.

Copilot chat active users in Teams counted as Teams Copilot active users
Active users of Microsoft Copilot in Teams will soon count towards Teams Copilot usage, potentially increasing active user metrics in reports. Rollout begins late July 2024, requiring no admin action. Adjustments to custom reports using Copilot usage data may be necessary.

Apply suggestions for Coaching by Copilot in Microsoft Outlook
Coaching by Copilot in Microsoft Outlook introduces an ‘Apply All’ button to implement coaching feedback and rewrite email drafts. Rolling out from late July to early September 2024, it’s available in new Outlook versions and requires an active Copilot license. No admin action needed for the update.

Copilot Academy Nudges to all Copilot SKU users (Seeded and Premium Viva Learning Users)
All Users having Copilot SKU (Viva Learning Seeded and Premium) will be nudged about Copilot Academy through a notification on Teams. Users will also get a monthly recurring notification in Teams about Copilot Academy.

Direct connection to Microsoft SharePoint organization asset libraries
Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 now supports direct searches and downloads from SharePoint organization asset libraries for brand-approved content. Rollout starts mid-August 2024, with completion by early September 2024. Tenant admins must prepare by identifying brand content and using a new cmdlet for library consent.
