What’s new for Copilot – April 2025
Hey there, Microsoft 365 fans! April brought us an impressive batch of Copilot updates, and wow – some of these new features are absolute game-changers! The month delivered over 100 updates across practically every M365 application, including that massive Wave 2 Spring release. It’s honestly crazy how fast Copilot is evolving!
I’m particularly excited about the new audio overviews for Word and PDF files in OneDrive – imagine having your documents transformed into podcast-style summaries while you’re on the go! The redesigned Prompt Gallery app is another standout, making it much easier to browse and manage organizational prompts right from a sleek new home page.

Copilot Chat will suggest prompts and work context you have access to as you type in the prompt, helping you find relevant information for your conversations.
Outlook: Role-based Copilots (Copilot for Sales) can extend Summarize in classic Outlook for Windows
This feature enables licensed users to use a role-based Copilot (like Copilot for Sales) to provide content for Copilot in Outlook’s Summarize experience. This roadmap item tracks availability in classic Outlook for Windows.
Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Select some text, and instantly get helpful options from Copilot
The Copilot icon in your document margin gives you a variety of actions you can take on your selected text. One click lets you rewrite, get editorial coaching, and more.
Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales – Easily save meeting notes to CRM following Teams meetings
We are announcing the easily save meeting notes to CRM following Teams meetings feature for Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales. This feature enables you to save meeting notes directly to your CRM after a meeting, without the need to switch contexts. This feature will reach general availability on April 30, 2025.
Dedicated environment to manage agents with REST API actions in the Copilot Studio Agent Builder
We are introducing the capability to manage agents using REST API actions developed with Copilot Studio Agent Builder in Microsoft 365 Copilot, within a new dedicated Microsoft Power Platform environment. This feature will reach general availability on April 28, 2025.
Microsoft Teams Phone: Copilot-generated summaries for call transfers on Android devices
Microsoft Teams Phone will soon support Copilot-generated summaries for call transfers on Android devices, available mid-May 2025. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and transcription enabled in calling policies. Ensure your Teams phone devices are updated to access these new features. No admin action is required before the rollout.
Ability to Stop Copilot while it is generating a response
Users will be able to stop Copilot while it is generating a response in Teams. This feature will roll out in May 2025. Organizations may need to update their documentation to reflect this change.
Microsoft 365 Copilot in Forms: Updates to help users refine and edit their forms
Microsoft 365 Copilot in Forms will be updated in April 2025 to help users refine and edit their forms more easily. A Copilot license is required. The update will provide tailored suggestions for content, settings, and styling. No admin action is needed before the rollout. More details are available in the linked support articles.
Microsoft Viva: Expanded AI admin role to manage Microsoft Copilot Dashboard settings
Microsoft is expanding the AI Administrator role in Microsoft Viva to manage Microsoft Copilot Dashboard settings without requiring Global admin privileges. This enhances security and aligns with least-privilege practices. The rollout will start mid-April 2025 and complete by late April 2025. No admin action is required before the rollout.

Microsoft PowerPoint: Reference a PDF file when creating a presentation with Microsoft 365 Copilot (preview)
Users can now reference PDF files when creating presentations with Microsoft 365 Copilot in PowerPoint. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and is available in preview now, with general availability starting mid-April 2025. No admin action is required before the rollout.
Microsoft Viva Pulse: Generate a summary for Pulse reports using Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft Viva Pulse will use Microsoft 365 Copilot to generate summaries for Pulse reports, aiding authors in quickly understanding the feedback. This feature, available across various platforms, requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot or Viva Pulse license. The rollout will complete by late April 2025, with no admin action needed.
Microsoft 365 Copilot in Forms can help users collect responses and monitor form progress
Microsoft 365 Copilot in Forms will help users collect and monitor form responses, reducing manual effort. It requires a Copilot license and will be available globally from early to late April 2025. Users will receive email notifications for reminders and insights, and can analyze data in Excel. No admin action is needed.
Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat: New Microsoft Graph connectors for the chat experience and more
New Microsoft Graph Connectors for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat are now available, enhancing access to business content across various platforms like Guru, GitLab, Asana, 15Five, Miro, Trello, Zendesk, SmartSheet, and Seismic. No admin action is required for the rollout.

Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Drafting on a selection includes being able to reference files, people, emails, and meetings
Just like when you’re using Copilot to draft content on a blank line in your document, you can reference resources that provide context in addition to the content you’ve selected in your document.
Outlook: Draft with Copilot Highlight & Rewrite in classic Outlook for Windows
Now you can use Draft with Copilot to improve sections of your email draft. Highlight a specific section and then use Draft with Copilot to iterate on the text of the highlighted section.
Advanced Insights – Copilot Headlines Report
A new report for analysts in Advanced Insights will automatically scan for groups with unexpected or changing Copilot usage, as well as changes to collaboration.
Microsoft 365 Copilot: The chat experience will offer better search refinement in the CIQ menu “Files” tab
Coming soon to the chat experience in Microsoft 365 Copilot (formerly BizChat): Users will be able to use a File type filter and People refiners in the CIQ menu to apply search criteria and find relevant files more quickly.
Microsoft Copilot Studio – Conversational agent creation experience
We are introducing a new feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio: a conversational agent creation tool that uses natural, everyday language. This feature will reach general availability on May 6, 2025.

We are announcing the re-enablement of a Copilot security control that will block the access and recording of transcripts generated from conversations between agents created in Copilot Studio and end-users. This feature allows you to prevent makers from accessing session transcripts in Copilot Studio and prevents the recording of conversational transcripts. We rolled back this feature two weeks ago due to a bug, which has since been addressed. This feature will available across all regions by April 14, 2025.

Microsoft Purview Compliance Portal: Data Loss Prevention to restrict Microsoft 365 Copilot processing on emails with sensitivity labels
Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) is extended to preventing Microsoft 365 Copilot from processing emails with sensitivity labels. This feature will allow DLP policies to provide detection of sensitivity labels in emails as enterprise grounding data and restrict access of the labeled emails in Microsoft 365 Copilot chat experiences. This feature only works for emails on or after 1/1/2025.
Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Language expansion coming in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Improvements to Microsoft 365 Copilot controls in the Microsoft Teams admin center are rolling out from April to May 2025. These changes will prevent errors by disabling conflicting Copilot options when transcripts are off. Admins need to review and adjust settings accordingly. No action is required before the rollout.
Power Platform admin center – View Copilot and agent settings
We are announcing the view Copilot and agent settings within Copilot hub in the Power Platform admin center. This will enable admins to centrally view Copilot and agent settings in a consolidated view in the Power Platform admin center and will offer initial support for management at scale with environment groups and rules. The introduction of this settings page will reach general availability on May 19, 2025.

We are announcing the connect to external sources in agents through Single Sign-On (SSO) feature for Copilot Studio. Copilot Studio – Upcoming usage enforcement and behavior changes for message packs
Starting April 30, 2025, you will start seeing changes to the way your agent behaves once purchased messages in your Copilot Studio message packs have been exhausted in any month. This policy applies to all tenants using Copilot Studio message packs for conversational and autonomous custom agents.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Default Configuration Change – Enhanced Personalization Control
Microsoft 365 Global Admins can now configure the new Enhanced Personalization control for Microsoft 365 Copilot, which is defaulted to “on” and enhances user experience by processing communications data. This control is part of the default configuration for Copilot licenses, with features to be released in the coming months. Microsoft 365 Copilot: Admin controls and user file uploads for agent knowledge sources
Microsoft 365 Copilot will soon allow users to upload files as knowledge sources for agents and enable admins to manage these agents. Rollout starts in April 2025 for admin controls and May 2025 for user capabilities. Supported file types include docx, pptx, xlsx, pdf, txt, and csv, with specific size limits. Sensitivity labels will apply to agents. No admin action is required before the rollout.
Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention: Restrict Copilot in Office from processing labeled content
Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) will extend to Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, allowing DLP policies to exclude processing of labeled content by Copilot. Public Preview starts mid-May 2025, with General Availability in late June 2025. No preparation is required other than creating DLP policies and assigning licenses.
Power Platform – Copilot Plan designer announcement
We are announcing the Plan designer, a copilot-first development tool, which enables users to quickly create comprehensive business solutions. The Plan designer generates a complete Power Platform solution tailored to your needs, including Dataverse tables, canvas apps, model-driven apps, and suggested Power Automate flows. This feature was made available for public preview starting on December 15, 2024, and will reach general availability on May 19, 2025.

We are launching a new page in the Copilot hub that allows admins to view usage and value metrics for Copilot Studio agents in the Power Platform admin center (PPAC). This feature will start to gradually roll out as generally available on May 19, 2025.

We are announcing the readiness page for the Power Platform admin center. This will enable admins to learn about security, privacy, and data governance. We are announcing the Create and edit expressions feature for Power Automate. This feature allows you to create, edit, and fix your Power Automate expressions by expressing your requirements in natural language. This feature will reach general availability on May 14, 2025.
Copilot Studio – Introducing the Azure AI Search index as knowledge source feature
We are announcing the Azure AI Search index as a knowledge source feature for Copilot Studio. This feature will allow makers to build Copilots that use pre-built Azure AI Search indexes as knowledge for more relevant, accurate, and grounded responses. This feature will reach general availability on May 15, 2025.

Microsoft Dataverse – Add Dataverse as enterprise knowledge in Copilot Studio
We are announcing the add Dataverse as enterprise knowledge in Copilot Studio feature for Microsoft Dataverse. This feature enables makers to add their enterprise data, such as Dynamics 365 data and Power Apps data, powered by Microsoft Dataverse so that their custom copilots can provide users with relevant business insights using retrieval augmented generative (RAG) technology. This feature will reach general availability on May 22, 2025.

PowerPoint: Copilot generates a new presentation in a new file when starting from an existing presentation
PowerPoint’s Copilot will create new presentations in a separate file when starting from an existing one, preserving the original. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 license and will roll out to Desktop in late April 2025, and to Mac and Web by early June 2025. Update training and documentation accordingly.
Expanding reference capabilities with Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word
Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word now allows referencing entire folders, supports larger documents up to 1.5 million words or 3000 pages, and can reference up to 20 items. These features will be generally available by early December 2025. Folder referencing is available now for Word for the web and coming to other platforms in July 2025.
