What’s new for Copilot – May 2025
May was an incredible month for Copilot enthusiasts, with almost 100 updates once again! Microsoft clearly isn’t slowing down with their pace of innovation, and the developments happening in the Copilot ecosystem continue to impress.
This month, I’m excited to spotlight two brand new agents that have just reached General Availability – and these are real game-changers for how we’ll approach complex work tasks!
First up is Researcher, which combines OpenAI’s deep research model with Copilot’s orchestration and search capabilities. This agent can tackle complex, multi-step research projects by simultaneously reasoning over both your work data and web information, including third-party sources through connectors. Think of it as having a research assistant that can pull from everywhere at once.
Then there’s Analyst, powered by OpenAI’s o3-mini reasoning model and built specifically for data analysis work. What makes this agent stand out is its chain-of-thought reasoning approach – it works through problems step by step, taking as many iterations as needed to refine its analysis. Plus, it can run Python code for complex data queries, and you can actually watch it work in real-time! It’s like having a data scientist collaborate with you directly.

Starting late April 2025, Microsoft 365 commercial users without a Copilot license will have a daily limit on AI image generation in Copilot Chat. Unlimited usage will require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
We are announcing the Publish connector actions to multiple Copilot deployments feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature grants administrators the ability to reuse connector actions across multiple Copilot deployments. This feature reached general availability on April 21, 2025.
We are announcing the Easily find and use knowledge data sources feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio. Instead of having to know the precise details of specific data sources, this feature allows users to search for applicable data sources to add to agents. This feature will reach general availability on May 1, 2025.
We are announcing the Analyze action usage for agents feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature allows you to understand usage patterns, identify areas for improvement, and optimize performance for agents. This feature will reach general availability on May 12, 2025.
We are announcing the Save AI-generated meeting notes into CRM directly from Microsoft Teams feature for Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales. This feature allows you to save AI-generated meeting summaries directly into your CRM without switching context. This feature will reach general availability on May 5, 2025.
We are announcing the Get automated insights for seamless customer meeting preparation feature for Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales. This feature delivers automated insights directly in Teams. With a pre-meeting prep card, you’ll stay informed about key opportunities, past interactions, and strategic action items. This feature will reach general availability on May 5, 2025.
We are announcing the Analyze knowledge source usage for custom agents feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature introduces a chart and metrics that track how often your knowledge sources are used in conversations between your agent and users. This feature will reach general availability on May 5, 2025.
Microsoft Purview will include a page in Data Security Posture Management for AI to show protection capabilities and usage for Microsoft 365 Copilot. This feature will roll out in mid-2025, with public preview in June and general availability in July. No admin action is required.
We are announcing the ability to access Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales from the Microsoft Outlook mobile app. This feature will reach general availability on May 31, 2025.
Microsoft 365 Admin Center introduces the “Agents & connectors” hub for managing Copilot agents. This centralized platform allows IT admins to manage all types of agents, block/unblock agents, export details, and receive AI-driven recommendations. The rollout begins in early May 2025. Update your training and documentation accordingly.
This rollout will happen automatically by the specified dates with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to assess the impact on your organization. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.
We are announcing the ability to troubleshoot Copilot in cloud flows designer in Power Automate. This feature will reach general availability on June 1, 2025.
We are announcing the ability to include account and opportunity information in AI-generated email drafts for Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales. This feature will begin releasing on June 2, 2025, and reach general availability on June 9, 2025.
We are announcing a new way to configure triggers within Copilot Studio. This feature will allow you to create an agent with a trigger and actions that can be shared with multiple users, where each user can provide their own credentials to trigger the agent. This ensures the agent is secure and easy to manage and use. This feature will reach general availability on June 2, 2025.
We are announcing the Enable agents with new real time knowledge sources feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature enables you to build agents that use non-Microsoft data from external systems as knowledge for more relevant and accurate grounded responses on real-time data with no data movements. This feature will reach general availability on May 15, 2025.
Admins can pin Microsoft Copilot agents for their entire tenant or specific users/groups, enhancing discoverability and engagement. This feature will roll out in early June 2025. Admins should plan and monitor feedback to optimize agent deployment.

You can now switch between accounts on the Copilot chat tab on iOS and Android by swiping left to open the left-navigation. The rollout will begin in early June 2025 and complete by late June 2025. No admin action is required, but users should be notified.
This feature will introduce metadata for Shared agents. It will include the ability to export all data, ensuring that metadata is included, such as – agent capabilities, data sources that the agent has access to, actions the agent can perform. We will also show customer requested fields such as – Created in (tool the agent was created in – MCS, M365 copilot agent toolkit, Agent builder), Created By (Maker of the agent), Installed By – # users who have installed the agent.
Starting May 19, 2025, the Content moderation section in the Copilot hub in the Power Platform admin center will have reached end of support.
You can now reference a Microsoft Teams meeting when you create a presentation with Copilot in PowerPoint.

Microsoft Teams will release a feature in June 2025 allowing users to use Copilot during calls without retaining transcripts or recordings. Post-call functions like recaps will not be available. Admins can configure this setting via the Calling policy. More details to follow.
We are announcing the ability to control how agents are shared in your tenant for Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature will reach general availability on May 14, 2025.
We are announcing the ability to analyze billing consumption on the agent level, allowing makers to track Copilot agents’ billing consumption in Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature will reach general availability on May 6, 2025.
A new Message consumption usage report for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat (preview) will be introduced in the admin center to manage metered consumption costs. It includes detailed metrics and alerts for high usage. Public preview starts early May 2025, with general availability in late July 2025. No admin action is required.

Easily chat with your Researcher in Copilot Chat.
Microsoft PowerPoint users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can reference up to 5 files when creating a presentation. This feature will be available on Windows desktop, Mac desktop, and the web by mid-July 2025. No admin action is required, but users should be informed and documentation updated.
We are introducing a new feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio: a conversational agent creation tool that uses natural, everyday language. This feature will reach general availability on May 14, 2025.
The Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) Copilot Prompt Gallery is a curated collection of prompts and promptbooks created to help users engage more effectively with the Security Copilot experience in DSPM. It acts as a centralized hub where users can explore, search, and leverage prompts that streamline workflows and improve productivity. Designed to support a range of roles and use cases within Data Security, the Prompt Gallery is a powerful resource that enables users to quickly access relevant prompts, accelerate task completion, and unlock the full potential of the Copilot experience.

Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows will soon allow users to create presentations with Copilot from the Backstage view. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Copilot 365 license and will roll out from mid-May to late June 2025. No admin action is required, but user notification is recommended.
Sharing with Copilot summary now supports more file types, including PowerPoint, Excel, PDFs, images, and text files, as well as protected files. These enhancements will roll out from mid-May to mid-June 2025. Users can generate file summaries via the Copilot button, included in share notification emails.
Advanced Data Analysis in Microsoft 365 Mobile Apps’ Copilot Chat will roll out globally from mid-May to late May 2025. It enables users to solve complex math problems, analyze data, and generate visualizations using Python code. No admin action is required, but user notification and documentation updates are recommended.
We are announcing the ability to seamlessly Capture Sales Meetings with Automatic Recordings for Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales. This feature automatically records customer meetings and provides sellers with comprehensive transcripts. This feature will reach public preview availability on May 13, 2025.
We are announcing the ability to fix save errors in your cloud or agent flow with Copilot in Power Automate. This feature will reach general availability on June 6, 2025.

Microsoft Viva Insights will introduce a unified Copilot Analytics experience for Copilot Dashboard users and Viva Insights analysts. This rollout will start mid-June 2025 and complete by early July 2025. Existing configurations and settings will migrate automatically. Admins can manage access via Viva’s feature controls. No immediate action is required.
Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license will soon be able to access previously added agents from the Microsoft Edge sidebar starting late May 2025. This feature will be available by default, and no admin action is required. Users cannot create or add new agents from the sidebar.

Soon, users will be able to summarize PDF, Word, and PowerPoint email attachments with Copilot in Outlook across various platforms. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and will roll out from mid-May to late August 2025. Encrypted and MIP-protected files are not supported. No admin action is needed before rollout.
When users type a search query in the Edge address bar, they will have the option to send their search query directly to Copilot for a synthesized, more targeted answer pulling from across the web (and their work content, for premium users).
Copilot in Excel gains powerful new insights and visualizations with Advanced Analysis. Explore your data in a natural, conversational way, while Copilot does the heavy lifting using Python, a rich programming language that supercharges what is possible in your spreadsheets.
Use your voice to talk with Copilot, interact in-real time, and understand the content within your document or presentation.
Microsoft Copilot in the Microsoft 365 admin center will soon be available in government clouds (GCC). Tenants that have at least one Microsoft 365 Copilot license will be able to access Copilot in the Microsoft 365 admin center via the Copilot button on the top right corner of the screen.
Add images now to Copilot chat in applications of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote and Outlook. Available to government cloud (GCC) environments.
Use Copilot to see a summary of the latest comments and changes made to your Word, Excel and PowerPoint files using the Copilot chat pane.
This feature enables AI administrators to pin specific agents in M365 Copilot Chat for all users in the tenant or defined users and groups, improving user accessibility to the most relevant and agents for their work.

Find the perfect image with Copilot in PowerPoint and Word. Add a licensed stock image, generate an AI image or find an image from your SharePoint OAL. Copilot in PowerPoint and Word connects with your SharePoint organization asset library, making it easy to find and add images approved by your company to keep your presentation or document on brand. Available to government cloud (GCC) environments.
Copilot suggests how users should RSVP to meeting requests, based on meeting importance, availability, and working hours. With help from Copilot, users can streamline meeting request triaging, increase the number of triaged meetings, and reduce the time required for triaging.

We’re introducing a sidebar experience for Copilot Chat in classic Outlook for Windows. Now, you’ll be able to chat with Copilot alongside and in the context of the content you’re reading or writing in Outlook.
Hebrew support in Agent builder
We are announcing the ability to view usage and value metrics for Copilot agents in Power Apps in Copilot hub in the Power Platform admin center. This feature will begin gradually rolling out with general availability on June 15, 2025.
On May 12, 2025, makers editing classic agents will no longer have the option to have Copilot Studio generate a list of Suggested Topics from uploaded documents and web content.
Microsoft SharePoint will soon have a new dynamic web part for FAQs powered by Microsoft 365 Copilot, rolling out in June 2025. It will automatically curate FAQ content, requiring a SharePoint and Microsoft 365 Copilot license. No admin action is needed, but user notification and documentation updates are recommended.

Starting late April 2025, users can directly upload images from their phones to Copilot for Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote, streamlining the process of incorporating mobile images into these applications. Update your training and documentation accordingly.

This new Interaction Export API captures the user prompts and Copilot responses in the Copilot private interactions and provide insights into the resources Copilot has accessed to generate the response. It will be available in Public Cloud for General Availability.

Copilot makes it fast and easy to schedule a meeting from an email thread. When you use the Schedule with Copilot option, Copilot analyzes the email and creates a meeting invitation for you, filling in a meeting title and agenda, and adding the email thread as an attachment. The people on the email thread are included as meeting attendees, and you can quickly review the invitation, add or change info, and then send it out.
Copilot Dashboard users can now view metrics that reflect both summarized and recapped meeting activity, offering a more complete view of Copilot’s impact in Teams. These updates replace previous Copilot Assisted Hour calculations and meeting metrics with unified “summarized or recapped” metrics, helping leaders better understand usage across their organization. The updated metrics are available in both the Copilot Dashboard and the M365 Copilot Impact report in Advanced Insights, with additional query support for Intelligent Recap meeting metrics.
Use Researcher without needing to leave your Copilot Notebook to conduct complex, multi-step research across your enterprise data sources using OpenAI’s deep researcher model with chain-of-thought based iterative reasoning.
Sales-related insights will soon be available in Teams meeting recaps for all users with a Dynamics 365 Sales license, as well as for those who have previously purchased Viva Sales or Sales Copilot. Until now, accessing these insights in the Teams recap was limited to users with a Copilot for Sales license. This expanded availability will reach general availability on May 31, 2025.

You can now reference an Excel file when you create a presentation with Copilot within the PowerPoint application.
Copilot can now help mobile users prepare for meetings on-the-go. Copilot quickly prepares you for meetings within minutes by summarizing key information such as summaries of meeting-related emails and documents, your specific actionable tasks, and a recap of the previous meeting. This helps ensure you are well-prepared upon arrival.
You can now reference an Excel file when you create a presentation with Copilot within the PowerPoint application.

With so many of us in back-to-back meetings, it can be a real struggle to stay on top of pre-reads, action items, and even what each meeting is about. Copilot can identify and summarize the key points so you can show up prepared in just a few minutes. When you have an upcoming meeting, Copilot proactively shows you a “Prepare” button in your inbox which helps you quickly get context by creating a summary of the meeting and showing and summarizing relevant files, leveraging the power of the Microsoft Graph. Now you have all the most important details you need and can arrive prepared and ready to engage in a productive conversation. This feature will be available in the new Outlook for Windows and web. #newoutlookforwindows
As you enable M365 Copilot Chat pay-as-you-go billing, AI administrators can view usage insights to inform agent management decisions. This feature displays the cost and number of messages in total and per agent. Cost and usage details can be filtered by billing policy and date range.
Enable AI administrators to configure, customize, and measure Copilot Search across their organization. This feature provides centralized tools to manage search connectors, tailor search experiences to organizational needs, and gain actionable insights into adoption, usage patterns, and content engagement. We are introducing a new file extension for Copilot pages, “.page”. This new file extension will continue to support admin toggles, sensitivity labels, data loss prevention, multi-geo, Purview eDiscovery, version history, export, audit logs, and data subject requests. The functionality and support for the .page file extension will be identical to the existing .loop file extension, with the only difference being the file extension and the associated file icon. Analyst and Researcher agents will be generally available for Microsoft 365 Copilot-licensed users starting May 30, 2025. These agents will transition out of the Frontier preview program, appearing at the top of the agent list with no changes in functionality. No admin action is needed to use them.
Enhance your calling experience with Copilot on Teams phones devices—access intelligent insights during calls using suggested prompts.
Compare Copilot active usage with benchmarks in Copilot Dashboard. External benchmarks will provide a reference for how usage compares to other companies. Internal benchmarks will enable users to compare similar groups, within your company.
Leaders and managers can drilldown and explore data in Copilot Dashboard by indirect groups, unlocking a new layer of visibility into Copilot adoption and impact.
Bringing Microsoft 365 Copilot your AI assistant for work in the DoD environment. It combines the power of Large Language Models with your work content and context, to help you draft and rewrite, summarize and organize, catch up on what you missed, and get answers to questions via open prompts. Copilot generates answers using the rich, people-centric data and insights available in the Microsoft Graph. Microsoft 365 Copilot is available in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app (web), Teams (Chat and Channel) excluding Compose, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Copilot Prompt Gallery.

We’re rolling out grounding with web search in Copilot for Teams meetings, enabling users to get richer, more insightful responses from Copilot. When IT administrators enable web grounding for Copilot, Copilot will be able to analyze the web to aid it in answering your questions. With added work grounding, Copilot will be able to analyze your work files, emails, and people in your organization to provide deeper insights to your questions.
Copilot Dashboard now includes updated metrics for Intelligent Recap, replacing previous calculations with unified “summarized or recapped” metrics. These updates, available in the Copilot Dashboard and M365 Copilot Impact report, will be rolled out in late June 2025. No changes to eligibility criteria are required.
Users will be able to reference Microsoft Teams meetings when creating presentations with Copilot in PowerPoint. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and will be available on Windows desktop, Mac desktop, and web versions starting late July 2025. No admin action is required before the rollout.
Realtime voice chat is now available in M365 Copilot Chat and M365 Copilot on iOS. This feature, rolling out from July to September 2025, allows natural voice interaction with Copilot. Users will see a voice input icon in the app, and no admin configuration is needed. Inform users and update the app.
We are announcing the ability to browse and install a custom agent from an agent template in Copilot Studio. This feature will reach general availability on June 30, 2025.
On May 30, 2025, Microsoft Copilot Studio is introducing a new feature called custom search topics. This will allow creators to explore a knowledge base and keep the raw data they find as a variable.
We are announcing the ability to reassign an agent’s owner with PowerShell in Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature will reach general availability on June 30, 2025.
We are announcing the ability to use publicly available information to build agents that can assist citizens in navigating government services and information by using a Q&A-like experience in Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature will reach general availability on June 30, 2025.
