Reading corner: My Life at Apple and the Steve I Knew

This type of post is a first for me, I’ve never did a book review even though I’m a book addict and a book author. From now on, in this space you will find book reviews that somehow relate with technology, management or any other topic I’m into.

The first book review is about “My Life at Apple: And the Steve I Knew” a memoir written by John Couch, a former Apple executive that was employee number 54 and worked at the company for more than 20 years.

Couch held several senior management positions at Apple and played a key role in the development of several products, including the Apple Lisa and the Macintosh.

In the book, Couch shares his experiences working at Apple during a crucial time in the company’s history and provides insights into the leadership style of Steve Jobs. The book offers a unique perspective on the inner workings of Apple through the eyes of John Couch and reveals some interesting details about failed products from the past and how Steve Jobs brought Microsoft as a software provider to the Macintosh ecosystem.

John Couch worked at Apple in two different periods, during the years out of the company he worked in education and was an investor in several businesses. After Steve Jobs return, John joined Apple for a second run to revolutionize the way technology was being used by schools in the United States. John continued to work at Apple after Steve Jobs passed away, but with the company culture changing he found him self without a place to continue to implement Steve’s ideas and vision.

After reading a handful of books about Steve Jobs and Apple, in this one I learned a bit more about the history of Apple and the impact that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak had on the technology industry but this time through the words of someone who was also there changing the world.
